Greenpeace introduces the rBIN to manage the efficient segregation of waste at its UK head office.

Problem

Greenpeace UK's four-floor Islington head office needed better segregation infrastructure. The existing bins were uninspiring, and finding a genuinely trustworthy sustainable supplier was difficult.

Outcome

Four mobile rBIN units, British made from 70% UK-sourced recycled material and branded to Greenpeace's own guidelines, with staff noticeably more engaged with the recycling system.

Client context

Greenpeace is a global environmental charity that campaigns to protect the environment and promote peace on a global scale.

Its UK head office spans four floors and is situated in the London Borough of Islington.

The issue

Greenpeace UK faced challenges with effective segregation of waste and recycling materials within its head office. The existing bins were uninspiring and lacked any creativity.

Given the organisation's commitment to the environment, it is imperative that materials are separated at source so that they arrive at the appropriate facilities for successful recycling. It is also extremely important for Greenpeace to work with trustworthy suppliers that minimise their negative impact and provide a quality service, which Christopher Ali, Greenpeace UK's Facilities Manager, admits is almost impossible to find in sustainable procurement.

The solution

co-cre8 approached Greenpeace UK and presented a solution to the issues it faced. Greenpeace was initially attracted to the rBIN because of its British made status, its use of sustainable materials, its ability to be fully branded to specification and the variety of options available to customise the unit.

The sustainable credentials behind the rBIN, including the use of 70% UK-sourced recycled materials and a quality made product built to last, also support Greenpeace's own sustainability initiatives.

Greenpeace implemented four mobile rBIN units into its head office space: one three-stream unit and three two-stream units. co-cre8 worked with Greenpeace on bespoke designs aligned with its brand guidelines, and provided clear signage for each waste stream to support effective segregation.

Results

Feedback throughout the ordering process, and once the units were received, has been very positive. Greenpeace reported multiple compliments on the units, and staff are more engaged with the recycling system, no longer leaving items around the bins as they did before.

In their words

“These bins are beautiful and built to last. Any organisation who has sustainability within their core values absolutely need to consider these products as these are the real deal, no greenwashing here. The cost is the cost but it is a small investment for a greater long-term picture.”

“Working with co-cre8 has been a pleasure and enlightening, they know their stuff and believe in it while actually make an outstanding product which is almost impossible to find in sustainable procurement as Facilities Manager. Georgia was excellent throughout our purchase.”
